The Average Cost Of Braces

Average Cost of BracesBy no means are braces cheap, but at times they are an inevitable necessity used in order to straighten out a child’s or adult’s teeth. When it comes to finding the average cost of braces there are many places to look.  It often pays to shop around. This will ensure that the cost you are finding is a correct average for what most people end up paying.

So, for the typical costs that you will incur to get those teeth straightened will range anywhere from $5, ooo all the way up to $8,000 for more severe cases. This is based on the traditional type braces. Now, if you want to get less visible braces the costs will rise. If you want brackets that will match the tooth, for example, you’ll often pay an additional $500 to $1,000.  If you want those to be concealed or behind the teeth you’ll pay another $1, 500 to $3, 000 on average.  These are called Lingual braces, as they are mounted on the inside of the teeth. Lingual braces cost more because they involve a certain degree of customization for each unique individual.

There is another choice also called Invisalign, which are a clear tray that is made of plastic. The cost of Invisalign braces start as low as $3, 500 and go up to around $5, 000 on average. However, that may not actually be the full cost either, and many dental plans may not cover this for an adult.

These new types of braces offer a number of advantages. These modern braces, though more expensive are not as uncomfortable as the ones in the past. And they are much less noticeable. No one will be making fun of you or childs “railroad tracks”.  The best thing about the modern braces, besides being much easier to wear than the predecessor is that they require less time to move your teeth. Meaning that you will spend less time with these metal devices on your teeth than the other options out there.

There are modern braces where the metal will not show on the outside of your mouth. Yes they are more money, but for a child who is very sensitive about their looks it may be worth the cost. However, it will have to be discussed whether they are cabable of fixing the problem that you have. Plus they will have to stay on a bit longer to fix a problem also.

One of the newer options on the market is the plastic trays that are placed on your teeth. No more ugly looking metal on your teeth. But these will need to be realigned every couple of weeks. And will not work for every case out there either. They may look better but you will need to wear these a lot longer to fix your teeth.

There are other reasons why more cost may be added. Most of them for things that are better left not purchased. Modern technology has made the customization of braces a possibility. If you’re looking for that “bling” affect you can add gold or even diamonds to your braces. The cost of braces this extravigant is obviosly well above average. On a more practicle note, you can add color to the brackets, which appeals to some kids, and isn’t too expensive.

If braces are needed in your family it is best to contact your insurance company first. They will let you know just how much of the average cost of braces they will cover. You’ll then be able to determine jusr what is and what is not covered, how much out of pocket expense you’ll be dealing with, and so on. You can then make the best decision based on cost and your unique needs.

I’ve had braces and chosen colored ones every time. You only change the color of the rubber bands on the braces, and this is free. You can, of course, choose gray or silver, but changing up the colors of your braces is more fun and gives you an extra boost of confidence.

You can choose whatever color you want like stated above you cannot get colored brackets. The cheapest option is to use your insurance and set up a payment plan. Most places will let you pay what you can a month even if it’s only 20 dollars. But just remember, the longer it takes the more interest you pay, and rates go up every year. My grandpa and uncle both own a dental office. Honestly, making a call to your ortho is the 1st step. Make sure you ask them if they offer free or discounted consultations. Some do. And express your financial situation to the orthodontist. Hope that helped.

The cheapest braces are the standard frontal steel brackets with interchangeable color bands(this is where you can pick your color..from one solid to every tooth a different color!) Any customizing or camouflage-type braces (like invisalign) are going to cost more.

Cheapest- 3000.00 all the way up to tens of thousands depending on the severity case. It’s really different for every mouth… You will receive a fairly accurate quote after your impressions and x-rays are evaluated 🙂 if your case is that of just a couple semi-crooked teeth be sure to see about a retainer… These are a fraction of the cost (3-5 hundred)and just as effective to a few teeth as braces are to a mouth full of crooked teeth! Hope you all have success with your ortho’s!!!

One last thing…if you don’t have insurance you still have options…still go in and speak with your orthodontist!
